You were trapped. You dont know how long you've been there since your boat capsized, and the last thing was "his" face. Next thing you knew, you were in a cave of shorts. Moss on the ground and on the walls was bioluminescent, so you could see, and the air was breathable, so there was a connection to the surface. You hope, at least.

There was only way in, and one way out, and it was through the small pool on the other side of the cavern. Splashing told you he'd come back.

In the low turquoise light of the he looked human if you discounted the lack of legs or the unusually plump and textured tail fin. His face likewise looked human, but little things added up in a very uncanny way.

He had a sharp tool in his as he dragged his body out of the pool and beckoned you toward him. He didn't bring food this time, so you were more hesitant than usual. He extended his hand out, waiting for you to take it. When you didn't come over, he crawled to you and tried again. When you still didn't, he grabbed your arm and tried to prick it with his sharp tool only for you to resist. He was stronger than he looke, so you tried driving a knee into where you think his crotch only to hit below that and see your knee sinks into his tail. Eyes widen in shock as he softly glares at you, muttering something before things got worse.

His tail split, his tail shimered, it writhed and morphed as what was a long mermaids tail split into something more on a octopus than on a mer.

Quickly, his tentacles grappled with your limbs, and you were pinned and restrained as he got to work. Taking what he needed, he gently pecked the spot he stabbed as if trying to kiss it and retreated back into the pool, leaving you the same as before, just more concerned about what he is.

Albedo was annoyed but at least relieved. Showing his true form was supposed to happen in a more intimate or romantic setting, but they didn't seem too disturbed by his body, so here's hoping things weren't as bad as he feared. His research was progressing smoothly, and if everything went well, he could begin treatment in a few days. Soon, they'll be able to experience his world without fear of drowning, the bends, or worse. All the while keeping your form still human. Albedo trembled for a moment, recalling when he had your legs in his tentacles grips, No way he'd let you get rid of those. Ever since he saw you on your vessel, you haunted, taunted, and deprived him. A person of the land him a creature of the deep. A barrier he'd refuse to let him stop him. Catching your attention was trivial, capsizing your vessel even easier. Communicating his feelings to you was tricky(absolute failure), convincing of his intentions was ongoing(actively failing). But after he'll fix you, he has one more trick up his metaphorical sleeve and as he gazes lovingly into his glowing egg cases lining the walls. He knows you'd never abandon your family, right?

TLDR tentacle mer man albedo wants to keep s/o down there forever by alchemy bullshit to change you to survive down there and is planning to baby trap them anyways.

the creature that had taken you in is... peculiar, to say the least.

he doesn't understand human tongue; he had tilted his head at you when you flat out said the words, "no.", "stop that.", or "i don't want to be here anymore." instead, he communicates through sounds and body language. time spent in the cave eventually taught you the basics of his makeshift communication. a tongue click is dependent on situation; it can either mean agreement or disagreement. repitition of tongue clicks means he's calling out for you. a low croon is a sign of affection, and a whistle is for when he's feeling flirty.

oddly enough, he never gets mad at you; he snarls and growls, visceral hatred pouring in - but never at you. never towards you.

still, the towering difference between your species and his doesn't stop at the communication barrier; it extends past that. his diet of raw fish and kelp is expected for you to follow when he promptly drags food to your cave with his mouth, jaw unhinged past what's expected of humans. as you shakily take his kind offerings, you strictly remind yourself that he isn't.

his biology is unlike yours, too. his lower half is appendages of tentacles rather than legs like yours, and his irises are horizontally elongated. while reluctant to admit it, you're curious about him, much like how he's curious about you.

there are many things you don't know about him, and the place you've been thrust into. you don't understand why he insists on keeping you here, you don't know what the world looks like past the dingy cave you're in, you're not sure how long you're staying here, and you don't even know his name. you had expressed this sentiment of frustration to him when he came to visit you, fully expecting him to look confused per usual.

instead, he clicked his tongue before dipping his fingers into a puddle of mud and wrote something on the walls of the cave. symbols that eventually formed into letters, spelling out... a name?

titan to me is very clingy and possessive to titania bc of how saturn treated him. titan kind of just assumes that hes just loving her and doesnt understand how shes uncomfortable with this behavior. hes just appreciating her, whats wrong? doesn't she understand that he truly cares? his "love" isnt really authentic, he just views her as an extension of his cause, and is trying to show gratitude in the only way he knows how. he feels that ordering titania's obedience is justifiable because hes used to getting what he wants if and when he asks for it, despite other's emotions being negatively effected in the process.

titania, though, sees titan very differently. the first time they met, it was hard for her to trust him but when he showed to slightest hint of affection, titania was desperate for more anndd fell for him. all the dissmissiveness coming from him at first was brushed off from her because she couldnt shake off the opportunity for a trusted bond from an equal. buut things got kind of bad quickly and titania realized after a while her worth in titan's eyes, but only ever had the confidence to speak out about it in the moon club

titania DESPISES titan but also sometimes fears him? its weird and titania hates the fact that it is. though, titania feels bad for having these thoughts, shes SUPPOSED to love him, hes her better half, is she being ungrateful? after all shes been through, isnt this enough?

no, hes supposed to be there for her, hes the one at fault, one at fault for not trying hard enough, for acting as if that if she doesnt agree with every statement of his and isnt okay with being objectified that means SHES being an unreasonable prick, right? their relationship to me is very unheathly an d it took a whilefor her to even suggest breaking up with him lalalaa

Guys, let's be honest. Teamwork sucks! Yeah no need to sugarcoat it. And some men/women/they-neopronouns buddies ARE islands. And being alone in an island is not that bad! You get all the coconuts for you, the best spots in the beach, all the packages of the plane wreck that you find in the shore are for you... Anyway we're not talking about islands like the one we live in and gets destroyed every now and then. We're talking about collaboration.

Not everyone's made to work in teams, that's for sure. I myself hate to work in teams because you end up with the most peculiar dudes... You always get the prick who thinks they can do everything by themselves, you get the useless dude who is super funny but you can't get rid of them, the useless dude that everyone hates but, sadly, they're part of your team and you cannot leave them behind! And the leader, the hero, the most Chancetastic™ person in the group (me, in the groups I'm in). There's no balance.

See, you'll always have to do things you don't want to do because life is unfair. The earlier you let that sink in, the best. Plus, sometimes you lack certain abilities, you need someone to fill that gap in the resume of your experience. Is not that bad, just, get used to it. hello! sorry this took me so long i went to answer you and then completely forgot to post it. also i may over/under explain things, idk how much of the series you know so sorry about that.

also this is really long, theres a tldr at the end if you want

basically in the books theyre mainly only mentioned through Snape's eyes (and snape is a racist terrorist who created torture spells - dont listen to snape stans they havent read the books) so the marauders are presented as "bullies" that used to hex people for fun.

ill admit, james potter (harrys dad) wasnt a great guy when he was younger and did take it out on snape a bit, but we're only really given the worst bits, and obviously snapes memory will have exaggerated it a bit.

the marauders were james potter, sirius black (harrys godfather), remus lupin (harrys 3rd year defence against the dark arts professor) and peter pettigrew (a traitor prick).

Voldemort (aka Tom Riddle) leads the Death Eaters, a terrorist group based around blood supremacy (hating wizards that have non-magical/muggle family members, especially parents, and arent 'pureblood' wizards), and the marauders and their friends joined the original Order of the Phoenix, lead by Dumbledore (hogwarts headmaster) against the death eaters in the first Wizarding War. Snape was a death eater, but later joined the Order as a spy for Dumbledore.

Regulus Black, Sirius' younger brother, gave up his life to help take down Voldemort, by stealing one of his horcruxes (an item that contained part of voldemorts soul, keeping him immortal) and as a fandom, we generally bloody love reg.

Peter Pettigrew, who was Wormtail in the Marauders due to his animagus (animal you can turn in to) being a rat, was part of the Order but also secretly was working as a Death Eater spy for Voldemort. As a fandom, we generally hate the bastard and wish he died sooner.

There was a prophecy made about Voldemorts death, that seemed like it was about James' son Harry. so James, Harry, and harrys mum Lily went into hiding to protect themselves.

(its worth mentioning that Lily was muggleborn - her parents werent magic - and snape had ended their 'friendship' while they were attending hogwarts by joining the death eaters, terrorising other muggleborns and then calling lily a slur. he claimed that he loved her and its supposed to be his turning point that he reveals he was secretly good bc he loved lily, but he didnt he was creepily obsessed with her. again, dont listen to the Snape stans)

lily and james made pettigrew their secret keeper, meaning peter was the only person who could tell people where they were, and peter told voldemort

voldy then came to their house, killed james and then asked lily to move out of his way (Snape had made him promise not to kill her, snape didnt give a fuck about james or harry though). lily didnt move, and sacrificed herself to protect her son. this act meant that when voldy tried to kill harry, the spell backfired, killing voldy instead of harry, and accidentally created another horcrux inside of harry. harry had a piece of voldemorts soul inside of him.

anyways harry goes to live with lily's sister and her family, and theyre incredibly abusive, and then the first book starts when harry is 11 and gets accepted into hogwarts, finding out that he's a wizard and all of the horrid shit that happened to his parents. snape hates him because harry looks exactly like james did and reminds him of lily.

tldr; we mainly see the marauders through the eyes of the terrorist group that they fought, so they look like 'bullies' but actually snape was a prick. the fandom is composed of people who know this, and most of the canon isnt relevant to us.

TLDR at the bottom bc this entire post is kinda just repeating myself with different phrasing.

I mean, I literally agree with almost everything you just said. Nothing I said was to be a slight at the character, its just true. But just because it's true doesn't mean that I personally have to offer the same condolences I do to other characters. Especially when rutiles response to trauma is so different from other characters. The way a character responds to their trauma is a totally reasonable... reason to dislike them. You can be both a victim and a horrible person, half the characters have proven that. "Hurt people will hurt people" n all that.

Also the "we" I spoke of, I don't take that back. In some way, shape or form, everyone in this fandom is desensitised to someone's pain. We actively ignore the lunarians because we find their response unjustifiable, why are we acting like treating the gems the same is so wrong?

I wasn't saying that Rutile is a weak character, I was saying that their pain feels minimal compared to others, because Ichikawa has actively desensitised us to the gems trauma, not that Rutile is actually suffering less.

But to broadstroke those of us who don't like rutile as ppl who "don't get the nuance of their character" I promise you we do. Or atleast I do. But just because I understand, doesn't mean I am under any obligation to like them.

Their ugly raw falling apart didn't make me sympathise with them, because I, personally, can't find a single ok thing about the actions rutile has taken. With phos and dia, their actions have been against people who actively hurt them. I can understand revenge. But rutile is hurting an innocent person. Its not revenge, its just hurting someone to make yourself feel better. I just can't like a character who does that.

Also if pad had confronted them in the past, and rutiles STILL is behaving like that, I think I'd dislike them more. So good thing we don't know that for certain.

Also, It's like you just, actively ignored where I acknowledged rutiles depth and decided I was too stupid to comprehend that Rutile has any form of motivation to act the way they do. I see their pain, I understand their response, and I don't care. I dont think the pain justifies the response.

Rutiles a prick, and I don't feel as though they deserve the pity, especially because the victim in rutiles story is Padparadscha. The biggest victim of rutiles actions... Is padparadscha.

And it all came to mean nothing anyway, because they all became lunarians. 🎉

Really, it all comes down to what you can like in a character. The things you like about rutile are the very things that I find them horrid for. It says nothing about the character, and more about us, how we've responded to their actions.

Rutiles trauma. It's ugly, and it's real, but that's not any motivation for me or anyone else to consider them likeable.

TLDR : I am fully aware that Rutile has motivations, history and trauma that make sense of his actions, but i dont care, I think he sucks, still, and I dislike that people keep implying I'm some sort of dense idiot that "can't understand the intricacies of Hnk" for not extending sympathies to a character that I regard as one of the more unforgivable ones in HNK. You don't have to misunderstand a character to find them detestable, and if people keep telling me that I "just dont understand" I'm actually going to commit a form of arson. /j
